TUSCANY THERMAL SITES

Cool, warm or boiling waters, ancient beneficial waters. So beneficial as to take the name of “Acqua Santa” (Sacred Water) or even “Santissima” (Very Sacred Water), in the case of Chianciano Terme.
In the “Terre di Siena” region, thermal well-being has very ancient origins, namely Etruscan and Roman . The Fontes Clusinae” were recommended by Emperor Augustus’s personal physician and probably also enjoyed by the poet Horace. Recent archaeological finds confirm the existence of a great number of baths, hot springs and swimming pools, their fame undiminished throughout history.
The Petriolo springs were the favourite of Pope Pius II and the baths visited by Saint Caterina of Siena and Lorenzo dè Medici.
Recent history has seen Pirandello, Fellini and Chagall visit Chianciano.
Fortunately nowadays visiting these hot springs and their lovely natural settings is no longer a privilege of the rich. Instead, it is accessible to all those who appreciate what is good for their well-being.
